As a chiropractor at Simply Move Chiropractic here in Charlotte, I work with many patients who’ve been told to “watch and wait” when it comes to scoliosis. While that advice is common, it often overlooks something critical: scoliosis is not just a curve in the spine—it’s a problem of imbalance and instability. If we don’t address the muscular and neurological imbalances that support that curve, the spine has no reason to stay stable. Over time, that can mean progression, pain, and loss of function.

That’s where ScoliBalance therapy comes in. It’s a non-surgical, rehabilitation-based approach designed to improve spinal stability by correcting the underlying imbalances that contribute to scoliosis.

Why Muscle Imbalances Matter in Scoliosis

Your spine is held upright and controlled by a complex system of muscles, ligaments, and nervous system input. In scoliosis, that system becomes asymmetrical:

  • Muscles on one side of the curve often become overactive and tight

  • Muscles on the opposite side become lengthened, weak, and under-responsive

  • Deep stabilizing muscles lose proper coordination

This creates instability. The spine isn’t being supported evenly, so it drifts toward the side that has more tone and control. Over time, that imbalance reinforces the curve.

Think of it like a tent where half the ropes are tight and the other half are slack. The structure doesn’t collapse immediately—but it leans, twists, and becomes more vulnerable with every gust of wind.

That’s why simply watching and waiting is rarely a good idea. If we don’t actively restore balance, the body continues to reinforce the faulty pattern. In kids and teens, that can mean rapid progression during growth spurts. In adults, it often means increasing pain, stiffness, and postural breakdown.

How ScoliBalance Therapy Works

ScoliBalance is a customized scoliosis rehabilitation program that focuses on three core goals:

  1. Restore muscular balance

  2. Improve postural control

  3. Stabilize the spine in a corrected position

At Simply Move Chiropractic in Charlotte, I start with a detailed assessment of your curve pattern, posture, breathing mechanics, muscle tone, and movement habits. Every scoliosis curve is different, so your program has to be individualized.

From there, ScoliBalance therapy typically includes:

1. Curve-Specific Exercise Training

These aren’t generic “core exercises.” They’re designed around your exact curve pattern. Some examples of what exercises might look like include:

  • Asymmetrical stabilization drills
You might hold a corrected posture while resisting gentle forces from different directions to train your nervous system to keep you centered.

  • Rotational breathing exercises
These help expand the compressed side of the rib cage and restore more symmetrical breathing mechanics.

  • De-rotation movements
We work to counter the twist that often comes with scoliosis, retraining the spine to move more evenly.

  • Balance and coordination training
Standing on unstable surfaces while maintaining a corrected posture helps reinforce proper spinal control.

These exercises teach your body not just what “straight” looks like—but how to hold it.

2. Neuromuscular Re-education

Scoliosis isn’t only about muscles—it’s about how the brain controls them. ScoliBalance therapy trains your nervous system to recognize and maintain a more balanced posture automatically. Over time, this reduces the constant tension and fatigue that many scoliosis patients feel.

3. Manual Therapy and Mobility Work

Why Bracing May Still Be Part of the Plan

While ScoliBalance is non-surgical, that doesn’t mean bracing is off the table. In some cases—especially in growing adolescents with moderate to severe curves—a brace can be a necessary and effective addition.

The key difference is this:

  • Scolibrace provides structure from the outside, helping hold the spine in a corrected position.
  • ScoliBalance therapy works from the inside, training your muscles and nervous system to actively maintain that alignment and build long-term stability.

When used together, bracing and rehab can be far more effective than either approach alone. The brace provides external support, while the exercises train the muscles and nervous system to eventually take over that role.

What Patients in Charlotte Can Expect

When patients start ScoliBalance therapy at Simply Move Chiropractic, they can expect:

  • A thorough scoliosis-specific evaluation

  • A customized exercise and rehab plan

  • One-on-one guidance in learning each movement correctly

  • Progressive challenges as posture and control improve

  • Clear goals focused on stability, function, and long-term spine health

This isn’t a passive treatment. You’re actively involved in retraining your body—and that’s exactly why it works.

Why This Approach Is Effective for Charlotte Residents

Charlotte is an active city. Whether you’re a student, a runner, a desk worker, or a parent juggling everything at once, your spine needs to be strong, adaptable, and stable.

ScoliBalance therapy doesn’t just aim to reduce a number on an X-ray—it aims to help you:

  • Move better

  • Stand taller

  • Breathe more freely

  • Feel more confident in your body

By addressing muscular imbalances and instability directly, we’re not just watching scoliosis happen—we’re doing something about it.

If you or your child has scoliosis and you’ve been told to “wait and see,” I encourage you to explore a more proactive option. At Simply Move Chiropractic in Charlotte, ScoliBalance therapy gives you a way to stabilize your spine, reduce progression risk, and take control of your scoliosis journey—without surgery.

Adult Scoliosis Treatment in Charlotte: It’s Never Too Late to Get Help https://simplymovechiropractic.com/scoliosis/adult-scoliosis-treatment-in-charlotte-its-never-too-late-to-get-help/ Sat, 24 Jan 2026 18:06:27 +0000 https://simplymovechiropractic.com/?p=9487

I hear it almost every week in my Charlotte chiropractic office: “I was diagnosed with scoliosis as a teenager, but my doctor said there was nothing I could do about it.” Or “I’m in my 40s now—isn’t it too late to treat my scoliosis?”

Let me be clear: it’s never too late to get help for adult scoliosis.

I’ve dedicated my practice at Simply Move Chiropractic to helping adults right here in Charlotte manage and improve their scoliosis through specialized bracing and rehabilitation. What I’ve seen firsthand is that adults with scoliosis don’t have to simply accept pain, limited mobility, or worsening curves as inevitable parts of aging.

Understanding Adult Scoliosis

Adult scoliosis typically falls into two categories. The first is adolescent idiopathic scoliosis that continues into adulthood—these are curves that developed during the teen years but were either never treated or progressed despite treatment. The second type is degenerative scoliosis, which develops later in life as the spine’s discs and joints wear down unevenly.

Both types can cause significant problems. Many of my adult patients come to me experiencing chronic back pain, fatigue from muscular imbalance, decreased mobility, and even breathing difficulties in severe cases. Some have watched their curves worsen over the years, while others are just now discovering they have scoliosis after decades of unexplained back issues.

Why Traditional Advice Falls Short

Here’s what frustrates me about conventional wisdom on adult scoliosis: too many adults are told that surgery is their only option, or worse, that nothing can be done at all. The traditional medical approach often suggests “watchful waiting” until a curve reaches surgical thresholds, usually around 40-50 degrees.

But I don’t believe adults should have to wait until they’re surgical candidates to get real help. And I certainly don’t think surgery should be presented as the only solution for curves that cause pain and dysfunction.

Modern Treatment Options for Charlotte Adults

At Simply Move Chiropractic, I specialize in two evidence-based approaches that are transforming how we treat adult scoliosis: ScoliBrace and ScoliBalance rehabilitation.

ScoliBrace is a custom-designed 3D brace that’s unlike the rigid, uncomfortable braces you might remember from decades past. I work with each patient to create a brace that’s specifically molded to their unique curve pattern. It’s designed to be worn during daily activities and actually works to de-rotate the spine while providing support. Many of my adult patients are amazed that modern bracing can be both comfortable and effective.

ScoliBalance rehabilitation is the movement component of treatment. I guide patients through specific exercises and postural training designed to strengthen the muscles supporting their spine, improve flexibility, and restore more balanced movement patterns. This isn’t generic physical therapy—it’s scoliosis-specific rehabilitation that addresses the unique biomechanical challenges each patient faces.

What Results Can Adults Expect?

I want to be honest with my patients: adult scoliosis treatment looks different than treating a growing adolescent. We’re not working with the same growth potential, and that affects our goals.

However, I regularly see adults achieve meaningful improvements. Many experience significant pain reduction within the first few months of treatment. Others notice improved posture, better breathing capacity, and the ability to return to activities they’d given up. Some patients even see measurable curve reduction, though our primary focus is always on function and quality of life rather than degrees alone.

Ensuring Workplace Safety and Compliance Through Professional Screening

When it comes to hiring, more employers in Charlotte, NC are realizing the importance of pre-employment physicals to protect both their teams and their businesses. These exams ensure that new employees are physically capable of performing their job duties safely and that workplaces remain compliant with state and federal regulations.

At Simply Move Chiropractic, we proudly offer comprehensive pre-employment physicals in Charlotte, NC, including DOT and non-DOT urine specimen collections, to meet the needs of local employers and job seekers alike. Our goal is to make the screening process efficient, compliant, and stress-free for everyone involved.

What Is a Pre-Employment Physical?

A pre-employment physical is a medical evaluation performed before hiring to determine whether a candidate is healthy and physically capable of safely performing the essential tasks of their position. Employers use these exams to ensure that new hires meet physical and safety requirements before joining the team.

At Simply Move Chiropractic, our pre-employment exams are tailored to the specific job and industry. Common components include:

  • Vital sign check (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration)

  • Height, weight, and BMI measurement

  • Vision and hearing screening

  • Range of motion and musculoskeletal evaluation

  • Cardiovascular and respiratory assessment

  • Job-specific functional tests (lifting, flexibility, endurance)

  • DOT and non-DOT urine specimen collection for drug screening

These tests provide valuable insight into an applicant’s overall health and ability to perform safely within their role.

DOT and Non-DOT Urine Specimen Collections

One of the key services we provide at Simply Move Chiropractic is urine specimen collection for both DOT and non-DOT testing.

  • DOT (Department of Transportation) urine collections are required for safety-sensitive positions regulated by federal law — such as commercial drivers, pipeline operators, and certain transportation employees. These collections must follow strict chain-of-custody and procedural guidelines outlined by the Department of Transportation.

  • Non-DOT urine collections, on the other hand, are used for employers who want to implement their own workplace drug and alcohol testing policies. These are common across industries like construction, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Our clinic ensures every collection meets all applicable standards for accuracy, confidentiality, and legal compliance. Whether you’re an employer needing consistent testing protocols or an individual fulfilling a job requirement, our Charlotte urine collection services make the process simple and professional.

Why Employers in Charlotte Require Pre-Employment Physicals

Employers across the Charlotte area implement pre-employment physicals to minimize risk and promote workplace wellness. Here’s why it’s a smart investment:

  1. Workplace Safety – Identifying potential medical or physical limitations helps prevent future injuries on the job.

  2. Regulatory Compliance – Many industries, particularly transportation and healthcare, require proof of medical fitness before employment begins.

  3. Reduced Workers’ Compensation Costs – Preventing injuries before they happen helps reduce claims and insurance premiums.

  4. Improved Productivity – A healthy, physically fit workforce is more efficient and experiences fewer lost workdays.

  5. Peace of Mind for Employers and Employees – Both parties can move forward confidently knowing the employee is medically cleared to perform their duties.

By offering both DOT and non-DOT pre-employment services, Simply Move Chiropractic provides a one-stop solution for Charlotte-area businesses seeking reliable, efficient, and compliant testing.

Find Pre-Employment Exams in Charlotte, NC https://simplymovechiropractic.com/dot-physicals/find-pre-employment-exams-in-charlotte-nc/ Sat, 09 Aug 2025 17:21:38 +0000 https://simplymovechiropractic.com/?p=9169

When a new job asks you to complete a pre-employment exam, it can feel like one more thing to check off a long list. I perform pre-employment physicals for businesses and individual job-seekers in Charlotte and I’ve designed the process to be clear, efficient, and respectful of your time. If your employer requires a DOT or other occupational exam, I can perform those here as well.

Why employers require pre-employment exams

Employers use pre-employment exams to confirm that a candidate can safely perform the essential functions of the job, to reduce workplace injuries, and to meet industry or regulatory requirements. For many roles — especially those in transportation, public works, or jobs requiring heavy physical work — a physical exam protects both the worker and the employer.

What a typical pre-employment exam includes

Most pre-employment physicals follow a predictable set of checks: a medical history review, vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate), a basic musculoskeletal and neurologic screen, vision and hearing checks when required, and any job-specific tests requested by the employer. I’ll also document any medical restrictions or accommodations that are appropriate for the job.

DOT vs. non-DOT exams — what’s the difference?

DOT (Department of Transportation) physicals follow federal FMCSA guidelines and must be performed by certified medical examiners. Non-DOT pre-employment exams are typically tailored to the employer’s needs and may be more flexible in scope. If you need a DOT exam specifically, I am certified to perform them and can guide you through the paperwork and next steps.

What to bring and how to prepare

  • The employer’s form(s) or instructions (paper or electronic).
  • A list of current medications and relevant medical records if applicable.
  • Your driver’s license or photo ID.

Wearing comfortable clothing helps the physical exam go faster — shorts for lower-body screens, or a loose shirt for shoulder and neck exams.

When I can’t clear you — and what happens next

If I identify a medical issue or a temporary restriction, I’ll document the findings clearly and discuss next steps with you. Sometimes a follow-up test, specialist referral, or short period of treatment is all that’s needed before you can be cleared for work. My goal is always to be practical and transparent so you and your employer know exactly where you stand.

Scheduling and location

I see pre-employment and DOT patients at Simply Move Chiropractic in Charlotte — centrally located and easy to reach. If your company needs group screening or recurring occupational services, we can discuss on-site options or block scheduling.

If you have questions about which exam you need, or you’d like help completing employer paperwork, I’m happy to help — get in touch and we’ll make the process simple so you can focus on the job ahead.

FAA BasicMed Exams 3rd Class in Charlotte, NC https://simplymovechiropractic.com/dot-physicals/faa-basicmed-exams-3rd-class-in-charlotte-nc/ Tue, 05 Aug 2025 15:29:00 +0000 https://simplymovechiropractic.com/?p=9135

I offer third-class medical certificates in Charlotte, NC. These certificates meet the FAA Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) requirements for the BasicMed program.

What is the BasicMed Program?

In 2017, the FAA introduced BasicMed as an alternative to the standard third-class medical certificate. It was designed to reduce the regulatory burden on pilots while maintaining a high standard of safety. The most significant difference for me as a pilot is that the physical examination can be performed by any state-licensed physician, not just an AME. In North Carolina, a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, like myself, is considered a state-licensed physician and is eligible to perform this exam. This opens up a new, convenient path for you to stay current and safe in the cockpit.

Do I Qualify for a BasicMed Exam?

Before you get started, I always recommend checking your eligibility. The FAA has a few key requirements you must meet to fly under the BasicMed rules. You need to:

  • Hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Have held a valid FAA medical certificate (regular or special issuance) at any time on or after July 15, 2006. If you’ve never had one, you’ll need to get a one-time medical certificate from an AME before you can use BasicMed.
  • Have a completed Comprehensive Medical Examination Checklist (CMEC) from a state-licensed physician.
  • Have a certificate of completion from an approved online medical education course.

The program is ideal for pilots flying in non-commercial operations, allowing them to fly aircraft up to 12,500 pounds with up to six passengers, at or below 18,000 feet MSL, and at speeds under 250 knots. For most of my fellow general aviation pilots, this covers a wide range of flights, from local trips around the Carolinas to cross-country adventures.

My Role at SimplyMove Chiropractic

As a chiropractor licensed in North Carolina, I’m able to perform the physical examination required for your BasicMed certification. My practice, SimplyMove Chiropractic, is dedicated to helping pilots in the Charlotte community get back in the air quickly and safely. The BasicMed exam I provide is a comprehensive physical that closely follows the FAA’s Comprehensive Medical Examination Checklist (CMEC). I will review your medical history, perform a physical assessment, and discuss any medications you are taking to ensure you are medically fit to fly. This is similar to a routine wellness check, but with the specific requirements of the FAA in mind.

My goal is to make this part of your aviation journey as smooth as possible. We’ll go through the CMEC together, and once I’ve determined that you meet the medical standards, I’ll sign off on the checklist. You will then keep this signed form for your records, as it must be renewed every 48 months.

The Simple Steps to Your BasicMed Exam in Charlotte

I’ve broken down the process into a few easy-to-follow steps:

  1. Complete the Online Course: First, you’ll need to complete an FAA-approved online medical education course from an organization like AOPA or the Mayo Clinic. This course must be renewed every 24 calendar months.
  2. Fill Out Your CMEC: Download the FAA’s Comprehensive Medical Examination Checklist (CMEC) and fill out the pilot information section before your appointment.
  3. Schedule Your Exam: Contact us at SimplyMove Chiropractic to schedule your BasicMed physical. We’re conveniently located to serve Charlotte pilots. The cost for this specialized exam is just $95.
  4. Come to the Exam: Bring your completed CMEC and your pilot certificate. We’ll perform the physical exam, discuss your health, and I will complete and sign the physician’s portion of the checklist.
  5. Fly Safely: With your signed CMEC and your online course completion certificate, you’re ready to fly under BasicMed privileges. Remember to carry these documents with you in your logbook, either in hard copy or digitally.

I believe that getting your BasicMed exam shouldn’t be a hassle. I’m proud to offer a streamlined, affordable, and local solution for my fellow Charlotte pilots. I look forward to seeing you in my office and helping you take to the skies with confidence and peace of mind.

DOT Exams for Amtrak Crew in Charlotte: Certified, Quick, and Traveler-Ready https://simplymovechiropractic.com/dot-physicals/dot-exams-for-amtrak-crew-in-charlotte-certified-quick-and-traveler-ready/ Tue, 22 Jul 2025 14:23:33 +0000 https://simplymovechiropractic.com/?p=9029

If you work for Amtrak in a safety-sensitive position—whether you’re operating a train, driving a support vehicle, or working on railway maintenance—chances are you’re required to complete a DOT medical exam to stay certified. At Simply Move Chiropractic in Charlotte, I provide FMCSA-certified DOT physicals designed to fit the fast-paced, high-responsibility world of passenger rail.

Amtrak crew members don’t just move freight—they move people. That means the margin for error is smaller, the expectations are higher, and your ability to perform under pressure matters more than ever. My job is to make sure you meet those standards—and get it done without delay.

Why Amtrak Employees Need a DOT Exam

Many Amtrak roles involve operating or supporting commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), especially when transporting equipment, personnel, or maintenance materials. Others are subject to FMCSA or FRA medical standards due to safety-sensitive duties. If your position requires a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT card), I can help you stay compliant and on schedule.

What’s Covered in Your DOT Physical

When you come in for a DOT medical exam, here’s what to expect:

  • Vision and hearing tests – essential for route safety and passenger awareness
  • Blood pressure and pulse readings
  • Urinalysis – to screen for underlying health issues
  • Neurological and musculoskeletal evaluation – making sure you’re fit for duty
  • Medical history review – including current medications and past conditions

The exam typically takes less than 30 minutes. If all requirements are met, you’ll receive your DOT card the same day. If anything needs follow-up, I’ll explain your options clearly and help you resolve it efficiently.

Why Amtrak Crew Choose Simply Move Chiropractic

  • Certified FMCSA examiner with experience working with rail professionals
  • Same-day and next-day availability
  • No insurance required – one flat fee, no surprises
  • Easy-to-access location in South Charlotte

Reliable care for the people who keep America’s trains running on time. At Simply Move Chiropractic in Charlotte, I offer FMCSA-compliant DOT physicals designed specifically for professionals in the freight rail industry. I understand the unique physical and mental demands of rail work—and I’ll help you meet your medical requirements with minimal downtime.

Who Needs a DOT Exam at CSX?

If you operate a commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds, transport hazardous materials, or work in a safety-sensitive role, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires you to hold a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT card). That includes many CSX crew members—especially those supporting intermodal operations, rail yard logistics, and regional transport.

What Happens During a DOT Physical?

Your DOT exam will assess whether you’re fit to safely perform your duties. It includes:

  • Vision testing – including distance and peripheral vision
  • Hearing screening
  • Blood pressure and pulse rate checks
  • Urinalysis – checking for early signs of diabetes or kidney issues
  • Musculoskeletal and neurological review
  • Thorough health history evaluation

Most exams are completed in 30 minutes or less, and if everything looks good, you’ll walk out with your DOT card in hand the same day.

Why CSX Employees Choose Simply Move Chiropractic

  • Fast and professional service – with online booking and minimal wait times
  • Convenient South Charlotte location – near key freight corridors
  • Experience with rail and CDL certification standards
  • No insurance needed – flat pricing and no surprise fees
